Run slicers in Present Pro (Jump Action)

You can use the Run Slicers jump action to create a “button” that manually runs any slicers in the current presentation that have Auto Run disabled.

The default runtime behavior is for slicers to affect the presentation as soon as a new selection is made (Auto Run). Where that Auto Run functionality is disabled, however, the reader needs to be able to run their slicers manually. You can enable this functionality by creating a “button” (shape, image, or text) associated with the Run Slicers jump action. When the reader clicks this button at runtime, the slicer selections are applied.

Note: You might disable Auto Run and create a Run Slicers button if you have lots of slicers, but you do not want your user to apply their selections until all values are set.

Runtime effect of Run Slicers "button"

The following image shows a Country slicer where the value has been changed from "United Kingdom" to "Disabled," but the slicer is not yet run because Auto Run is disabled. This leaves the visual filtered by the old selection and displays lightning bolt indicators showing that the slicers need to be run. The two shapes (arrows below) have been configured to act as Run Slicer buttons; when your reader clicks either of these buttons, the slicers are run (in this case, they disable the filter in the visual):

Note: The lightning bolt indicators are only displayed when slicers need to be run; that is, where Auto Run is disabled on the slicers and new selections have been made but not yet applied.

Creating the Jump Action

Before you begin

You only need to create a Jump Action "button" if one or more of your slicers have Auto Run disabled. You can disable Auto Run for a slicer:

You need to add the image, shape, or text field that will act as your button to a slide in your presentation.

Configuring the Jump Action

With the "button" selected on the canvas:

  1. Right-click Click Action (green arrow above).
  2. The Jump Actions panel opens at the bottom of the page.

  3. From the Choose Action Type drop-down, select Run Slicers (blue arrow).
  4. The fields in the Jump Actions panel are updated to reflect the relevant options for this selection.

  5. Optionally, clear the Show Indicator checkbox.
  6. This checkbox controls whether your Jump Action button displays the lightning bolt indicator when slicers have been updated and need to be manually run.

  7. Click Apply.

The Jump Action is created. When you run your presentation, you can manually run your slicers by clicking on the Jump Action button.
